What is a Doula?

ree

A doula is an extra hand, an extra ear, and extra eye. Each person has their own definiton and services they provide for families so talking to providers about what they offer verus what you're looking for is extremely beneficial. Know whether you are looking for support during your pregnancy and birth, and/or if you are wanting extra support postpartum. If you are looking for postpartum support, think about how long you are wanting support, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, etc. Discuss if you want help overnight or during the day, and how included you want them to be. Some families prefer all the attention to be on the children, while others would prefer to bond with baby while their doula helps around the house. Helping around the house can include cooking meals, doing laundry, basic house cleaning, taking care of siblings, grocery shopping, anything that will make your life easier.
